Factors often associated with young driver crashes include driver inexperience, overconfidence and risk-taking which is why learner drivers are required to log at least 120 hours of supervised driving, including 10 hours at night, before applying for a probationary licence.
These hours must be correctly recorded in an official Learner Log Book and be signed by a supervisor. The official log book is available at VicRoads.

Considering your first car?
Contrary to popular belief you do not have to spend a lot of money to make sure your first car is safe.
However, with so many cars to buy, how do you know which car will best protect you in a crash?
The First Car List has been prepared especially for young people who are thinking about buying their first car.
The list includes small, medium and large sized used cars with either four or five star safety ratings ranging in cost from as little as $2,000 up to $14,000.
