The Municipal Association of Victoria and the Local Government Professionals Association have developed the Saferoads Strategy. This Strategy provides the framework for municipalities in Victoria to develop their own road safety strategies. Other key organisations involved in the Saferoads partnership are the RACV, VicRoads, Victoria Police and the Transport Accident Commission.
The goal of the Saferoads Strategy is to:
Reduce the incidence and severity of road crashes in municipalities through:
- Multi-action programs.
- Increased use of local government networks; and
- Increased road safety resources at the local level.
Warrnambool City has reviewed its Municipal Road Safety Strategy (May 2002), assessed the progress of the strategy, reviewed current crash data and prepared an updated strategy document that provides guidance for the Council to address road safety issues over the next five years.
