MEDIA RELEASE: June 21, 2011

Council spent today removing the thorny weed Boxthorn from areas around Warrnambool.

The Council received funding from the Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority for pest plant and pest animal control at Point Ritchie and Warrnambool Foreshore area.

Boxthorn is a haven for rabbits and foxes, and birds readily disperse the seed, as they eat the Boxthorn berries.

Both Point Richie and the Foreshore have significant fauna such as the Grannies Grave correa, so eradication of boxthorn and other woody weeds in the area will assist with its protection.
