Neighbourhood Safer Places Locality Map

Warrnambool City Council has designated a number of locations as Neighbourhood Safer Places. In case of emergency the recommended sites are located to enable public access for Warrnambool and Moyne residents as well as travellers.

Neighbourhood Safer Places are a place of last resort to be during the passage of the fire front, if a person’s personal Bushfire Survival Plan cannot be implemented or has failed. Neighbourhood safer places do not have Emergency Services in attendance.

The designated places are as follows:

• East Warrnambool Football Club carpark.
• Mack Oval.
• Reid Oval.
• Walter Oval.
• EJ King Reserve.
• Merrivale Recreation Reserve.
• Davidson Oval.
• Lake Pertobe Reserve.

These locations have been assessed by CFA and Council for their ability to provide some protection against radiant heat, one of the biggest killers in bushfires.

Despite the intense conditions likely to be experienced at a Neighbourhood Safer Place, including strong winds, heat, noise, smoke and embers, they may provide some limited protection to those under direct fire threat.

Council has erected signs alerting people to the Neighbourhood Safer Places and will review locations annually.
