Building Permit

The Building Act requires people carrying out building work to obtain a building permit prior to the start of work.

Building permits are required for different types of buildings such as industrial and commercial projects, dwellings and dwelling additions, dwelling alterations, attached carports and verandahs, garages as well as timber and brick front fences.

Under the building regulations there are some building works considered as minor that do not require a building permit. You should always check with Council’s Building Department if you are unsure whether a building permit is required or not.
