Western District Forecast

for the period until midnight EST Sunday 5 July 2009.

Severe weather warning for damaging winds within this area.

Weather Situation
An intense low pressure system is southwest of Tasmania and is producing a
vigorous northwest airflow across the State. The low will move slowly northeast
to be near east Bass Strait by Friday morning, while a cold front well south of
the Bight will reach western Victoria this afternoon and then extend eastwards
across the State by Friday morning. A high pressure system will build over the
Bight as the low moves away during Saturday, and then ridge into western
Victoria on Sunday.

Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Cloudy. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms with hail. Winds westerly
averaging 35 to 50 km/h tending west to southwesterly 45 to 55 km/h during the
afternoon. Temperatures around 11 during the day.

Cloudy. Isolated thunderstorms with hail in the morning. Scattered showers.
Winds southwesterly averaging 30 to 40 km/h, reaching 45 km/h at times,
decreasing to 20 to 30 km/h by early evening. Overnight temperatures falling to
around 6 with daytime temperatures reaching around 13.
