| Council aims to protect and enhance biodiversity by minimising impact on the environment.
Council undertakes a range of natural environment key initiatives across various branches and works in partnership with other government departments, schools and community groups to raise the awareness of environmental issues which often involves leading by example through programs and projects conducted by the Warrnambool City Council.
Warrnambool City Council’s commitment to sustainable development is indicated by the investment for the purchase of sustainable equipment.
Clear target goals have also been set and plans implemented to reach these goals. An example of this is the Sustainable Water Use Plan which has committed Council to a 20% reduction in potable water by 2012.
Council’s internal Environment Committee has set key challenges. These include introducing energy saving measures across Council, introducing a Bokashi Bin in the offices to minimise food waste reaching landfill and working with Fun4Kids to conduct a carbon audit.
The audit will assist Council to undertake future festivals based on sound environmental sustainability principles.
Council has committed to the Eco-buy program which is a program that commits Council to green purchasing. | |
