Increased community involvement in Flagstaff Hill will be the key focus of a new initiative to enhance the role of volunteers in the tourist attraction.

Flagstaff Hill executive manager Matt Walker will meet with volunteers tomorrow to discuss the important role supporters play in the overall operations of the centre.

“Flagstaff Hill has undergone major staff changes and development in the past 12 to 18 months with the launch of Shipwrecked and the appointment of a new executive manager, so we now need to sit down with volunteers and discuss their role,” Mr Walker said.

Mr Walker said the launch of Friends of Flagstaff Hill would produce a renewed focus and commitment to attracting a new generation of volunteers.

“We are very fortunate that Flagstaff Hill already has an extremely strong and committed volunteer base dedicated to this world-class tourist attraction,” Mr Walker said.

“We now plan to build on that and implement new ideas and encourage a greater community involvement in Flagstaff Hill.”
